Dr. Debra J. Townsend is a Board Certified specialist in Internal Medicine and in its subspecialty of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She has been practicing internal medicine in her subspecialty in Tucson since 1992. She has held the academic position of Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of South Carolina School of Medicine from 1989 to 1992. During that time she was also the Director of the Nutrition Support Team at Dorn Veteran's Hospital. From 1992 to 1998 she held the position of Director of Gastroenterology at GHMA Medical Center; Section Chief, Division of Gastroenterology at Tucson Medical Center from 1996 - to 1998 and at El Dorado Hospital from 1998 to 2000. Dr Townsend has a strong interest in promoting preventative medicine especially in regards to Colorectal Health, GERD, and IBS. She is a dedicated professional who prides herself on educating her patients on their digestive health issues. She enjoys taking time to establish the much needed patient-physician relationship that has been lacking in today's medical world. She was instrumental in bringing the initial "Susan G. Koman Foundation - Race For The Cure" breast cancer run in southern Arizona and is proud of its continued success and growth.
